From the time I was a young boy
I always liked my dad
He taught me to work and play ball
And with dad coaching the team
Our championship team beat them all.
If we weren’t at a ball game together
We were working together at the job site
Dad you’re alright!
You not only won my heart
But you’ve got the respect of my friends too!
And now we’ve got to wait
To get to heaven to see you
But as for me, while I’m here on earth
I’m going to keep you within my heart
And from that which you’ve taught me
I won’t depart.
All the life lessons I learned from you
I’m putting them to practice too
Now I better understand
Why at times you disciplined me
So I could grow up
And be the man you wanted me to be
Undoubtedly this was your expression
Of true love to me
Thanks for both rejoicing in my present
And preparing me for my future
With tenderness me you did nurture
And the warrior within me you did mold
Now I can arise with confidence
And when necessary my children scold.
Your spirit and strength are within me
So I go forth boldly in victory
To be all that you would want me to be
To make the world a better place
Until I see your face!
